CRT Arcade Monitor Repair

We can repair your arcade monitor

One of the biggest problem with classic video arcade games is the monitor. These games were turned on and running non-stop for decades. This means excessive heat. Heat causes two main problems.

1) it can melt the solder holding critical components to the CRT monitor board causing it to fracture to a point where those components are now out of circuit.

2) Components expressed to excessive heat can fail.

Another issues that can happen to arcade monitors are electrolytic capacitors drying out. These oil packed components act like a small battery, storing current and releasing them steadily. Capacitors have a life expectancy of around 25 years. We see some go as far as 30 years, but at that point you are gambling with the life of other components on your CRT monitor chassis. (circuit boards). When a capacitor fails, it starts drawing more and more current. When this happens, parts like resistors and diodes can’t keep up and burn out.

Deep 6 Arcade LLC has technicians standing by ready to bring your arcade CRT monitor back to life.

*We urge anyone unfamiliar with how to safely discharge a CRT monitor not to touch it themselves. However if you do not live near one of our shops and you have already removed the chassis from your monitor, you can ship it to us for repair. We stock a wide variety of of popular CRT monitor chassis rebuilt and ready to go. If we assess yours as able to be rebuilt, we can ship you one ready to be installed quickly. This saves you time and brings your game back to life very quickly. If you need a new chassis. We also do that as well.

Proper Expectations

We want to set proper expectations. If your monitor has “burn in”. meaning when the monitor is turned off, you still see an image. This is permanent. There is nothing we or anyone else can do to correct this. However, there are ways to have it not be an issue. For starters, when the CRT monitor is turned on and playing, the burn in is generally not that big of a deal for most people. Also, adding smoked plexiglass over a monitor will reduce the visibility of monitor burn.
If you absolutely need a monitor without burn, we can see what we have in stock or through our vendors to get you one. However, because these monitors are well out of production and different games requires different monitors, this is not always possible.

“Neck Glow” does the glass tube on the back of your monitor glow orange when turned on even if no picture is displayed? If it does not, this either means your monitor just isn’t getting power or your tube is dead. Some tubes are difficult to find. But, it’s worth looking for one.

Common Problems

“Vertical collapse”. This seen when you turn your arcade game on and just a single line appears across your screen. Remember, monitors are used in two ways. Wide across or wide up and down. This means if you have a game like 1941 Counter Attack, or DigDug. If the line in straight down the middle top to bottom, this is still vertical collapse because in those games the monitor is turned on it’s side.

Repair of this requires examination of the solder joints, parts identification and testing. We can repair your CRT monitor in this case.
